Fruhstorfer 1904 - The Dark Blue Glassy Tiger

Koh Samui and Koh Pha Ngan.

Very similar to Ideopsis similis, the main difference being the shape of some of the basal spots in spaces 2 & 3 on the forewing, which, in I. similis are elliptical and I. vulgaris, wedge shaped. Also, the cell-end spot is only slighly outwardly indented in I. similis, but deeply indented in I. vulgaris.

It is also the rarer of the two Ideopsis species found on Samui.

Range

S. Burma, through the Peninsular to Sundaland and the Lesser Sunda Islands.
