Phymatostetha nangla - Distant 1900

Photos taken at Doi Suthep-Pui, Chiang Mai Prov., Thailand on 19 October 2018.

Type matching specimen. Photos taken at Chiang Dao Wildlife Sanctuary, Chiang Mai Prov., Thailand on 12 November 2019.
This is a new record for Thailand.
The species appears to be restricted to the northern montane areas of Thailand, but is apparently quite common.
The type description stated that the pronotum is black with a central red stripe. This has been found occasionally in Thailand, but the more common form has the pronotum entirely red except for a small black stripe at the posterior end, and two black spots on the anterior portion, and also the markings on the tegmina are more expansive.
As a point for discussion, it is interesting to note that all the specimens seen complying with the type description have been found on Doi Chiang Dao, whereas all those of the other form have been found on Doi Pui, some 80Km. to the south. As more specimens are seen, it will be interesting to see if this observation holds.
A photo from Laos shows a mating pair, where one of the specimens has the red markings replaced by pale cream. This variation has not yet been seen in Thailand.
