Leptataspis nigriscutellata - Schmidt 1911

This is a new record for Thailand.
There appears to be some disagreement as to the validity of this species. It was originally mentioned by Butler (1874) as a variety of L. siamensis, only promoted to a seperate species by Schmidt. Not all researchers seem to accept this as no mention of the species is made by COOL nor in the Lallemand & Synave 1961 paper. However, other respected sites do mention it.
The original description of the species gives the base colouring as testaceous, however, in all but one sighting in Thailand, the colour is orange/yellow.
The species does not appear to be rare in mid-elevation open areas near to forests in the north of the country.

Cambodia, Laos and Thailand.
Recorded distribution in Thailand. Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Phitsanulok and Phetchabun provinces.
