Leptataspis fruhstorferi - Schmidt 1927

Photo taken at Mae Jo District, Chiang Mai Prov., Thailand on 9 September 2015.
This is a new record for Thailand.
This is one of three similar species for which there are many incorrect identifications on the internet (the others being L. fulviceps and L. fuscipennis). This species can be recognised by the lack of an orange band along the costal border.
Much confusion has been caused as the species was originally named L. fulviceps by Jacobi (1905), which already existed. The name was changed by Schmidt in 1927 as it was 'nomen praeoccupatum'.
The species appears to be restricted to the low to mid-level elevation areas of Thailand.
