Probably the most common and widespread species of Cercopidae.
This is most generally a species of the lowlands and sub-montane hills.
As the species name implies, this is a variable species with several named forms:
f. bipunctata has no white or yellow forward spots, only two red spots towards the rear (occasionally only one).
f. approximans has two miniscule white or yellow forward spots, but only a single red rear spot.
f. distanti, where there are 4 spots, the front two being yellow (not white) and the rear ones red.
f. luteopunctata which has all 4 spots yellow.
