Atrophaneura varuna varuna
White 1842 - The Common Batwing
Koh Samui only.
This species is confined to forests and their margins. Whilst seen throughout the year, it can, in no way be described as common. Usually, only single specimens will be seen flying through the trees, and rarely settling. It can easily be identified by its red thorax (body), and that there are no markings on the hindwing unlike all other red bodied species found on the Island.
