Uncommon butterfly of the forests and forest edges. It can be distinguished from Ariadne isaeus by the white spot on the forewing, and from Ariadne ariadne by the two black lines just past the cell on both fore and hind wings.

Peninsular Thailand, Malay Peninsular and Sumatra. Other subspecies in Sri Lanka, India, Thailand (not Peninsular) through Indo-China to S. China, Borneo, Java, Philippines and Sulawesi.
