Moore 1858 - Common Onyx

Despite its English name, this species is rare on Samui.

Like the other members of it's Genus, it is to be found promarily in secondary vegetation.

Larval Foodplant

Durio zibethinus (Bombacedae), Glochidion rubrum (Euphorbiaceae), Coriaria nepalensis (Coriariaceae) and various Prunus sp. have all been recorded in differing parts of its range.


India, throughout Indo-China through to Southern China to Taiwan. Also Thailand and Malaysia, Sumatra Java and Borneo.
