Parantica melaneus
Cramer 1775 - The Chocolate Tiger
Koh Samui only.
A rare species here, which I have only seen on two occasions on the Island, although it is considered common elsewhere. It is primarily a forest butterfly.
It used to be considered that the local members of this genus were a seperate subspecies, P. melaneus planiston, but this, and all other subspecies have now been synonymised with the nominate form, leaving no subspecies.
