Ptyelinellus praefractus - Distant 1908

Photos taken at Koh Samui, Suratthani Prov., Thailand on 21 December 2015.

Unnamed dark form. Photo taken at Chiang Dao Wildlife Sanctuary, Chiang Mai Prov., Thailand on 28 February 2018.

<< Back to Cercopoidea overview

This appears to be an unrecorded species in Thailand. It seems to be a lowland species.

Although the photo agrees completely with that of a specimen of the species shown in the BOLD website, there are some reservations as to its identity.

In the original description of the type specimen, Distant makes no mention of the sinuate divide on the pronotum, nor does the figure given alongside the description. This is odd because he makes special mention of a similar divide for a different new species (Ptyelus affinis) in the same paper. All specimens I have seen, from Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, do have this sinuate divide.

Distant also mentions a dark, unmarked form. This has been found in Chiang Mai only.
